About 60 people came out to support Ukraine Sunday in Kailua-Kona amid the ongoing Russian invasion of the Eastern European country.
Many who took part in the “Stand With Ukraine” demonstration along Queen Kaahumanu Highway are Ukrainian or had lived in Ukraine prior to coming to the Big Island.
The gathering was held to show solidarity with Ukraine and bring awareness to the public about this unjust invasion of a free country, said Kari Lepouttre, who lived in Kyiv with her husband during the Maidan Revolution between 2014 and 2016. Lepouttre noted many still have family in Ukraine who could be refugees from Russia’s invasion.
